Is this right for you?
Over the last ten years, we have been carefully refining our vision for the circle of music and dance that we wish to play and evolve in. The following three stages of growth represent different levels of participation and commitment to our version of the practice of New World Rhythmatism. We extend an open invitation for you to join us in these rhythmic playgrounds at the level that is appropriate to your time and interests. There is no expectation that you go beyond the first stage. We also recognize that our vision of a fabulous creative environment may not necessarily be the same as yours. By making our vision clear, you have the opportunity to thoughtfully decide if you share it. If you do not, we understand, and enthusiastically encourage you to find a way to make your own dreams a living breathing reality. On the other hand, if you would like to play creatively with people who are united in the following expectations for each other, then we happily invite you to join us in these artful explorations of rhythm, dance, and chant.
NWR Dance Technique Class
The class in NWR Technique is a fun safe environment for reawakening and refining our dance. Our NWR ensembles are based in Middle-Eastern styles of movement (bellydance), but we are also inspired by other movement traditions and body awareness practices. This class is attended by those who simply wish to enjoy the weekly boost of dancing with friends, as well as those who are interested in joining the beginning ensemble. The class is organized around the introduction of basic ensemble elements as well as body awareness and technical skills in Middle-Eastern dance and our distinctive style of movement. Participation in this class is open to anyone who is interested regardless of prior skills, dance background, or level of commitment. Unlike the ensembles, live drummers are generally not present during the technique class.
Cost: $10.00 (for drop-in), or $45.00 for six sessions.

NWR Private Lessons
For those dancers and drummers who already possess considerable skills in their arts and are interested in participating in the ensembles, but choose not to take the technique class, private instruction is also available. You can join the beginning ensemble as soon you meet the criteria for participation.
Cost: $25.00 per 1 hour session.

NWR Intermediate Ensemble
The intermediate ensemble is a place of sacred practice and exploration, where playmates push the edges of their skills and comfort zones while growing both together and as individuals. As is the case in all NWR ensembles, everyone leads and everyone follows at different times. Each member is encouraged to bring their particular artistry to the session while also learning from and empowering the creativity of their playmates. The sessions are a balance of flowing co-created dance, rhythm, and chant, and structured group skill building exercises.
In the intermediate ensemble, we embark on the delightful process of nurturing the symbiotic rhythmic relationships that emerge between all of the participants. In particular, we focus on the communication and communion that evolves between drummers and dancers. Participation in the intermediate ensemble includes chanting and in-step entrainments. Ensemble players also work to master and utilize the range of improvisational structures and ensemble calls to help co-create the shared ensemble session.
Rhythmatists commit to this path as an important part of their creative lives. They express this commitment by regular attendance and at home practice of at least two hours per week.
